Inside our Richmond clinic, the first minute in the Energy Activation Pod will probably feel quiet — not much yet. Many people describe what happens next this way: by minute ten there is a warmth that begins around the lower back and travels upward, close to an afternoon spent in the sun [Experience description · pending verification by Dr. Judy] — that is the graphene far-infrared layer warming the shallow tissue beneath the skin. By minute twenty-five most people stop tracking whether they are awake or somewhere just under it. We’ve placed it inside our Richmond clinic so that a CTCMA-registered practitioner can guide when and how you use it.
Not a medical device. The Energy Activation Pod is a wellness experience offered alongside professional TCM consultation. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. If you have a medical condition, consult your physician before booking.
What the Energy Activation Pod is
The Energy Activation Pod is not a single-function sauna capsule. It layers four physical technologies into one reclined session:
- Graphene far-infrared — a gentle, even surface warmth that brings the body to a light, “barely-perspiring” range
- Pulsed magnetic field (bio-resonance) — low-frequency pulses paired with the warmth to help the nervous system settle
- Terahertz — a wavelength range between visible light and microwave
[manufacturer description · pending verification by Dr. Judy] - Photon LED — visible-light wavelengths used for skin in the closing minutes of the session (non-medical-grade light therapy — not a clinical laser, and not used to treat any skin condition)
A full session runs approximately 40 minutes [Session length pending verification by Dr. Judy]. We place it inside the TCM rhythm rather than treating it as a standalone — Dr. Judy suggests when to use it (after acupuncture, between cycles, at a seasonal turn) based on what your body is doing that week.
Who it’s for
- People who sit for work, whose hands and feet stay cool all year, whose joints tighten in Vancouver dampness
- Anyone who has just had acupuncture or tuina (推拿) and wants to extend the warmth
- Mothers in a fertility-prep arc who want the lower belly warm alongside the rest of the plan (if your cycle is late or there’s any chance you’re pregnant, please pause and call us before booking)
- Anyone who likes a “seasonal maintenance” appointment as the weather shifts
- Light or interrupted sleepers who could use a true, uninterrupted hour of stillness (for long-standing, severe insomnia please also see your family physician — the Pod is only supportive)
- Late-stage recovery (not acute inflammation, more than six weeks post-surgery, with practitioner confirmation)
If any of the contraindications below apply, please do not use the Pod.
What a session is like
You change into a light cotton short-sleeve set; the front desk takes blood pressure and a quick check on the day. The first five to ten minutes are the warming-in stretch — you feel held by warmth, nothing more. Minute ten to twenty-five, the back and lower back warm through. The final stretch, twenty-five to forty, is the deeper portion, with the photon LED layer joining at the end. The session is solo, the lights dim, soft music optional.
Afterward, please sit for about ten minutes in the lounge with a warm tea Dr. Judy has paired to your constitution. For the two hours that follow, please do not shower and avoid direct cold wind.
How Chinese medicine sees this
In the TCM frame, the Pod is not a treatment device — it is a tool for “warming and unblocking.” The surface warming of the graphene far-infrared layer can be understood as resonating with the direction of “warming yang and transforming dampness” (温阳化湿) — a supportive approach, not a herbal-strength tonification [pending verification by Dr. Judy]. The pulsed magnetic and terahertz layers can be understood as gentle accompaniments to the body’s rhythm.
The Pod does not replace pulse reading, point selection, or herbal formulas. It is the long exhale after acupuncture, and a gentler doorway for people who are not ready for needles yet.
Pricing, booking, things to note
Single sessions, packages and first-visit pricing — please ask at the front desk. Dr. Judy will recommend a frequency based on your constitution (generally no more than two sessions per week [Frequency pending verification by Dr. Judy]).
Please do NOT use the Pod if any of the following apply:
- Pregnancy at any stage — contraindicated. Far-infrared warming and pulsed magnetic equipment are not used during pregnancy.
- Pacemaker, implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), cochlear implant — pulsed magnetic field is contraindicated; do not use
- Metal implants (joint replacements, plates, screws) — far-infrared can heat the implant locally; do not use without separate in-person practitioner assessment
- Active cancer treatment (chemotherapy or radiation, ongoing or recent) — do not use
- Recent surgery (within six weeks) — do not use
- History of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or clotting disorders — do not use
- Severe diabetes with peripheral neuropathy (reduced skin-temperature sensation) — do not use
- Implantable insulin pump or other programmable implant — do not use
- High fever or acute infection — do not use
Please come in for an assessment first if: you have had alcohol that day, are severely sleep-deprived or dehydrated; you have uncontrolled high blood pressure; or you have a history of seizures. A short health declaration is signed at the first visit.

Frequently asked
Can pregnant women use the Pod?
No. Pregnancy at any stage is a contraindication for this equipment. Please ask about gentler alternatives that are appropriate during pregnancy — those will be decided in person after assessment.
Does it feel hot, or like a needle?
The surface warmth is in a comfortable range — closer to a long, warm afternoon than to a sauna. The pulsed magnetic layer has no electrical or sharp sensation; most people describe the whole session as a quiet, “held” feeling.
How long is one session?
A full session is approximately 40 minutes [Session length pending verification by Dr. Judy]. Many people leave their first session relaxed and tell us they fall asleep more easily that night.
How long before I can shower afterward?
Please avoid showering or direct cold wind for two hours after the session — pores are partially open, and early exposure to cold can drive that chill inward.
How quickly will I notice a change?
How many sessions someone needs varies widely. Some people feel a shift after one or two; others find the benefit comes from regular use over weeks. We’ll talk about what makes sense for you at your first visit. We do not promise change in any specific number of sessions; we track your body’s response with you, and Dr. Judy adjusts frequency and pairing from what we see.
Can it be done on the same day as acupuncture?
Yes. The usual order is acupuncture first, Pod second — the Pod becomes the long exhale at the end.
