Calm treatment space at Sky TCM — Vancouver meridian tuina 温哥华经络推拿

A meridian (经络) cannot be seen or held, yet it can be read under the fingers. A stretch that runs tight, or cool, or sends an ache somewhere distant when you press it, is often exactly where qi and blood (气血) have stopped moving freely. Vancouver meridian tuina follows those invisible lines and works the blocked spots loose, one at a time. At Sky TCM Acupuncture Clinic, we do not put force straight into a tight muscle. We work out which channel it belongs to and where it connects, then decide whether to start upstream or down.

What Vancouver meridian tuina is

Meridian tuina is the strand of tuina (推拿) that takes the channels as its map. Chinese medicine describes twelve primary meridians and eight extraordinary vessels along which qi and blood travel; when a length of one stops flowing, it can show up as stiffness, ache, numbness, or fatigue. Meridian tuina is not simply rubbing wherever it hurts. It moves along the line of the channel, through points and fascial layers, with kneading, pressing, pushing, and plucking, working to open the meridian, move qi and blood, and ease the overall heaviness and stiffness.

This is a different thing from the spa massage many people know. A spa massage is mostly after the comfort and relaxation of the moment; meridian tuina carries a Chinese medicine read and works against specific channels and specific problems. Both have their place. The goals are simply different.

What our Vancouver meridian tuina covers

At Sky TCM, meridian tuina is delivered by a trained bodywork team working from Dr. Judy’s assessment. It usually includes:

We adjust pressure to how your body reads that day. Pain is not our measure of a job done.

Dr. Judy and the meridian tuina team

Dr. Judy Chu, R.Ac is a Chinese medicine practitioner registered with the CTCMA of BC. The real difficulty in meridian tuina is not strength in the hands but the judgment of which channel to follow, and that is where her pattern differentiation (辨证) earns its keep. She reads your constitution, your tongue and pulse, and where the symptoms spread, deciding which meridian is involved and whether the picture is full or depleted, and the trained team applies the matching hands-on work.

The clinic is in Richmond, but we serve the whole of Greater Vancouver. People drive in from the West Side, Burnaby, and Surrey, and there is parking at Aberdeen Plaza below.

Who it helps

If you care most about the pain itself, see tuina for neck and back pain. To understand how tuina and ordinary massage differ, read tuina vs massage. For the full range of hands-on work locally, see Richmond tuina massage.

Vancouver meridian tuina FAQ

I am in Vancouver and you are in Richmond. Is that workable?
We serve all of Greater Vancouver. The Canada Line goes straight to Aberdeen Station, the drive down the Oak Street or Knight Street Bridge runs about 20 to 30 minutes outside rush hour and 35 to 40 at peak, and there is parking at Aberdeen Plaza below.

How is meridian tuina actually different from a regular massage?
A regular massage is mostly there to relax you in the moment; meridian tuina carries a Chinese medicine read and works the channels and points to move qi and blood with purpose. There is a full comparison in tuina vs massage.

How long does a session run?
It depends on the area and the goal, usually 30 to 60 minutes of hands-on work. Dr. Judy will give you a suggested length and frequency after the assessment.

How might I feel afterward?
Some people feel relaxed and sleepy the same day. A few notice a little local soreness that settles within a day or two. That is the body adjusting, not a bad reaction.

Can meridian tuina go with acupuncture?
It fits well. Acupuncture regulates the qi, tuina regulates the form, and they are often done together. See acupuncture and tuina together and our Greater Vancouver acupuncture service.

Nothing you can name feels broken, but the body is heavy, tight, and tired. Come in for an assessment, let Dr. Judy see which channel has stopped running freely, and let the team open it back up.
